Thoughtfully assembled of found discarded plastic, the spirited works of Mary Adkisson dramatically transform recycled waste materials into powerful mandalas of painterly color. Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Adkisson began a 25-year career in the design and tradeshow industry during the 1970s. Later relocating to rural Iowa, Adkisson’s creative focus shifted to an inventive process of methodical assemblage. The resultant tondos are meditative reflections on the artist’s encounters with the natural world, directly inspired by her transformative introduction to the landscape and environmental colors of the American Midwest.Renewal features a collection of recent works which re-imagine the traditions of painting and ritual design. Please join us for a reception to meet the artist, Saturday, November 19th, 5:00 – 8:00 PM.
